Spacial Solutions International is an architectural practice that tackles complex building projects in Europe, Asia and Africa. The self-conception of the 20-strong team is based on partnering and interdisciplinary exchange. Joint work on the designs, plans and projects characterises the company’s relationship to clients and partners.
In their role as lead consultants, Spacial Solutions International cooperate with leading German engineering firms and consultants, from the initial
planning stages right up to completion, with the aim of developing sustainable, long-lasting and flexible architecture. During this process, not only does the company sound out envi-ronmentally friendly technical opportunities, such as intelligent building automation systems, but also places equal emphasis on cultural and creative options.
That this practice, founded in 2005, has been so successfully involved in projects in Germany and abroad is thanks to their approach of crosscultural project work, which integrates the respective characteristics and traditions of the project site. The range of work undertaken by Spacial Solutions International spans urban development master plans, the construction of residential buildings, hotels and cultural facilities plus buildings for large public sector and commercial clients.
Project
Kigali Convention Center, Kigali, Rwanda
The dome, with its 38 metre high spiral construction, is the heart of this congress and convention centre in the capital of the east African country Rwanda. With this convention centre, planned by Spacial Solutions International, Kigali has not only received a modern, multifunctional urban quarter, but also a place in which this country’s successful political and social change is taking shape. In many respects, the Kigali Convention Center’s architecture fulfils the great expectations that were held of it.
The striking building, enthroned on a hill, complements the area that is organised as a campus, which includes a new cosmopolitan IT services and office park, plus a five star-hotel with generous event and conference facilities. Its arena offers space for 2,800 people. The convention centre’s spectacular roof construction, with its delicate, dynamically ascending spiral pattern, references the country’s tradition of circular buildings. With a diameter of 60 metres, it straddles the arena in the manner of a hood that is light as a feather.
