Since being founded in 2004, BSD’s interdisciplinary team of architects, engineers and other specialists has planned and realised numerous complex construction projects both in Germany and abroad. The practice meets the challenges of both large urban development projects and also small-scale developments with an approach to design that is economical and high quality in equal measures. Innovative concepts for existing properties and plots of land are the basis for further planning steps. Depending on the scope of the project, we put together interdisciplinary teams of engineers to tackle complex tasks.

With respect to our contracting authorities and clients, we are committed to loyalty and fairness within a liberal environment.

Project

Vesnovka, multifunctional residential complex with retail, office and gastronomy, Almaty, Kazakhstan

In Almaty, the former capital of Kazakhstan, situated at the foot of the Tian Shan mountain range, a complex of buildings was constructed on a 20,000m² piece of ground. The practice was responsible for the architectural plans, the facade planning and the overall creative management. Due to the city’s location in an earthquake prone area, the structural planning for this project was especially designed for that issue.

This complex of buildings, of various heights and with subtly protruding individual buildings, provided for flats as well as office space, retail units and restaurants created a new sub centre in the city of Almaty. Upon close inspection, the complex’s lively roof ridge line really stands out, largely thanks to its unusual roof shape:  it borrows from the traditional head covering born by Kazakh men.
